In laparoscopic surgery, access is gained to the inside of the patient’s abdomen using a sharp trocar. This cuts a path through which a ‘port’ can pass (the port is a conduit for the camera and surgical tools). However, the process of placing the ports is inherently awkward, time consuming and potentially very dangerous. This unique device allows ports to be placed easily and safely, saving time and money. It was developed in collaboration with Dr Herbert Arnarsson from St Mary’s Hospital, London. Patents pending.
