In keyhole surgery, access is gained to the inside of the patient’s abdomen through ‘ports’. These act as a conduit for the camera and surgical tools required for the operation. Unfortunately, ports get dirty easily and this disrupts the visual pathway by fouling the camera. Currently, ports are ineffectively cleaned using an artery clamp and absorbent gauze. This simple device solves this problem. It was developed in collaboration with Dr Herbert Arnarsson from St Mary’s Hospital. Patent pending.
